Suffering from this type of pain? You may have the foot condition known as Morton's neuroma. Morton's neuroma may develop as a result of ill-fitting footwear and existing foot deformities. We can help.
Cuboid syndrome is a condition that involves a disruption of the normal alignment of the cuboid bone with the heel bone, and it causes pain on the outside of the foot. The pain might feel like it originates from the outside of the ankle, and the person afflicted with it may limp or sway when walking to avoid placing weight on the affected area. Mild swelling or bruising might be seen on the outside and bottom of the mid-foot. This problem develop from a single event, such as an ankle sprain, or through repetitive impact to the area, like runners or dancers (particularly ballet dancers) might experience. A small “popping” might be felt on the outside of the mid-foot as well. Treatment of cuboid syndrome usually involves making sure shoes are well-fitting and comfortable, using soft orthotics, and doing stretching exercises to help mobilize the joint. In some instances, realignment of the cuboid bone is needed. If you feel pain in your mid-foot area and it is worsening, you might have a more severe case of cuboid syndrome. You can see a podiatrist who can properly diagnose the problem and provide appropriate treatment.
Cuboid syndrome, also known as cuboid subluxation, occurs when the joints and ligaments near the cuboid bone in the foot become torn. If you have cuboid syndrome, consult with Mark Isenberg, DPM from Center for Podiatric Excellence. Our doctor will assess your condition and provide you with quality foot and ankle treatment.
Cuboid syndrome is a common cause of lateral foot pain, which is pain on the outside of the foot. The condition may happen suddenly due to an ankle sprain, or it may develop slowly overtime from repetitive tension through the bone and surrounding structures.
Causes
The most common causes of cuboid syndrome include:
Symptoms
A common symptom of cuboid syndrome is pain along the outside of the foot which can be felt in the ankle and toes. This pain may create walking difficulties and may cause those with the condition to walk with a limp.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of cuboid syndrome is often difficult, and it is often misdiagnosed. X-rays, MRIs and CT scans often fail to properly show the cuboid subluxation. Although there isn’t a specific test used to diagnose cuboid syndrome, your podiatrist will usually check if pain is felt while pressing firmly on the cuboid bone of your foot.
Treatment
Just as the range of causes varies widely, so do treatments. Some more common treatments are ice therapy, rest, exercise, taping, and orthotics.

There are many tools at a podiatrist’s disposal to address any number of challenging foot afflictions. Podiatrists may prescribe antibiotics, recommend orthotics, or encourage a surgical procedure in extreme cases. One interesting tool that podiatrists can use is known as shockwave therapy for the feet. This new method can be used to treat plantar fasciitis, one of the most common foot conditions affecting individuals across the country. The shockwave therapy treatment consists of applying bursts of air and electromagnetic shock pulses to the lower limbs in either low or high energy increments. The purpose of this is to facilitate a kind of natural healing response in the feet. That is, the shockwave therapy is meant to encourage the formation of blood vessels in the affected areas and other healing nutrients. If you have plantar fasciitis and believe that you might be interested in addressing it through shockwave therapy, contact a podiatrist who may be able to help.
Shockwave therapy is a treatment commonly used to treat various injuries and conditions, particularly plantar fasciitis in the feet. To learn more, consult with Mark Isenberg, DPM from Center for Podiatric Excellence. Our doctor can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a new treatment option designed to treat bone conditions such as tennis elbow, shoulder pain, and others. Shockwave therapy uses high intensity sound waves that are directed to the affected tissues of the body with pinpoint accuracy. The effects are very beneficial, leading to a production of collagen fibers, eliminating inflammation.
Who Benefits from Shockwave?
Shockwave is recommended for patients suffering from heel pain and associated problems. Heel pain is a common condition which can be caused by obesity, overexertion, and spending a substantial amount of time on hard floors with your feet exposed and unsupported.
Fast and Easy
The therapy is actually a simple process that can leave patients feeling better the very next day. Shockwave therapy is not as dramatic as it sounds. It enables more blood flow to effected areas, addressing the source of the problem and allowing treatment to last for a long time.
Treatment & Recovery Time
Shockwave treatment will enable your feet to recover quickly. This is especially important since surgery is not required. It is cost effective and does not require the use of anesthesia. This treatment is a better option to surgery, since it is proven safe.

The feet can be negatively affected in patients who are obese. It can alter foot structure, and may lead to developing arthritis. Common foot conditions that can result from obesity can include tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and inflammation along the entire foot. Research has shown that when people walk up steps, approximately four to six times their body weight is felt in the ankle joints, and this can also occur from walking up a steep incline. Obesity may increase these numbers, and it is beneficial to start a healthy eating plan that can help to reduce the impact on the feet and ankles. Recent studies have been conducted, and almost half of the people observed they have gained weight prior to having foot pain. The tendons and ligaments in the feet are often affected when additional weight is gained, and walking may become difficult. If you are overweight, and have foot and ankle pain, please schedule an appointment with a podiatrist who can treat foot pain, and help you with proper food choices that may reduce foot and ankle pain.

If you are researching running shoes online you may have encountered some confusing footwear terminology. The basic components of a running shoe include the upper, the midsole, the outsole, the tongue, the heel counter, the toe box, and the last. Let’s start with the LAST, first. The LAST is the 3D model which forms the shape of the shoe. It can be straight, curved, or semi-curved. The UPPER covers the foot and holds the shoe together. The TONGUE is part of the UPPER and is a strip of material that sits under the laces. It helps put on and remove the shoe. The HEEL COUNTER is a sturdy form at the back of the shoe which surrounds and secures the heel. The TOE BOX provides the space where the toes reside and is the widest part of the shoe. The OUTSOLE is the bottom part of the shoe. It makes contact with the ground while providing traction and durability. The MIDSOLE sits on top of the outsole and provides cushioning and shock absorption. The INNERSOLE is above that and makes contact with the feet and attaches to the upper. Consult with your podiatrist for advice on the best type of running shoe and features for your particular feet and running stride.
